Yesterday we held our very first community bookswap in the Woodheys park community pavillion and it was a great success. After a slow start we had a steady stream of visitors all of which left with a new book or six(you know who you are). With plenty left over and a number of promised donations we have decided to make this a fortnightly event over the winter.
The funds raised will help towards our planned events calendar for next year and it will also promote the community room which is still a very-much underused facility within the park. It also gives the friends group a much more relaxed chance to chat and mull over ideas and thoughts with the park users who get to meet more of the friends group than they probably realise are involved.
We are looking at inviting local micro-businesses in the Woodheys park area to join up with the bookswap and advertise what they have to offer and as usual we will be selling teas and coffee's. With plenty of room for a sit down and a chat it turned out to be a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning, I know it got me out of football training which at my age isn't a bad thing.
The next event will be on the 06th December between 11am and 1pm and it would be great to see you. We have plenty of books for sale at strongly reduced prices or swap and the range is suitable for ages from the very young to adult fiction, cookery and Biographies.
Help us get the word out by printing a Woodheys Park Leaflet and displaying it or you could just tweet or facebook to let people know.
