Becoming a member of the friends of Woodheys park (FOWP) is simple.- E-mail the Co-Chairman on the contacts page advising that you want to help.
- Young or old, the Friends group require a diverse demographical representation
The commitment that friends group members make is very flexible with the amount of time devoted to it being upto the individual member. We hold public / friends meetings on a monthly basis and we would ask that all members attend the meeting to contribute and put their thought's across. Above that then any time which can be spared for newsletter and leaflet distribution or to help out with events is entirely voluntary. We have some openings on the committee at the moment which would require a more firm commitment. Each committee member takes on a specified role helping each other. At present FOWP committee members are holding dual roles in order that we can achieve everything required for the continued success of the park but we would like to reduce this workload through additional committee members. - Meetings, presently being held fortnightly going to monthly dependant on the time of the year.
- Organising and assisting with all events held within the park on a rotational basis.
- Possible free training opportunities being offered by Trafford council in diverse areas connected with park management.
- Working with social and community groups within the local area.
The FOWP group and committee members find the work we do challenging and rewarding. Many opportunites are open to friends group members for additional voluntary training and development of skills which may not be covered in their daily work. Looking after a park the size of Woodheys is an important role not only for the park but for the wider community as a whole. We welcome your enquiries and commitment to being a member of the Friends of Woodheys park. |

Woodheys Park is situated in a popular catchment area. Sited in the council area of Broadheath put postcoded as Sale West the park's catchment area incorporates Sale West, Broadheath and Timperley.A 7.5 hectare site with it's car park off Kenmore Road at the top of Woodhouse Lane their are four entrances. The main entrance is the car-park entrance on Kenmore Road with a second entrance being further up Kenmore Road by the popular Pinkey park childrens play area. Further entrances can be found off Link Road and at the rear of the woods backing onto Sinderland Brook and De Quincey park. The Sinderland Brook entrance is primarily used by those coming from the new Stamford Brook ecological housing development in Broadheath. This development has had a large impact on the park with some saying that the re-design of Sinderland brook back to it's natural meandering course having had a knock on effect on the marsh area of our woodland habitat. Link Road is a cut-through entrance from the major A56 route of Manchester road. Parking at this entrance is a little tight but it is still an extremely well used gateway into the park coming in partway between the pitch and putt, football and playing fields. This google link will give you a better idea of the siting of this park. Woodheys park in google |

The Friends of Woodheys Park. The Friends of Woodheys Park formed in 2000 when members of the community decided to do something about the general state of Pinkey park as it was known locally. To begin with this group met with considerable hostility from members of the local community who's anti-social behaviour within the park and surrounding areas had led to the destruction of the local pavillion and many other amenities which were in a poor and run down state. The friends group gathered pace over the coming six years and in 2002 a five year plan was developed in conjunction with Trafford councils' greenspaces and parks committee. The small but dedicated group actively encouraged the local community to involve themselves with the park and membership of the friends group grew. Projects such as the re-roofing of the pavillion, fencing of the park boundaries and a new under 7's play area were successfully pushed through and now, in 2007, the group has a loyal and committed core membership which works closely with Trafford council to develop and expand the park's appeal across the borough and beyond. The friend's group are always looking for fresh impetus and new members who can provide a different outlook on what has been acheived and what could be acheived in the future. A new five year plan is in the offing to take us through to 2012 with several projects ear-marked over the coming 3-5 years. The friends of Woodheys Park : building a community park for the 21st Century. |
