Amatuer photographer Eddie Middleton who is originally from Sale but now works and lives in Scotland visited Woodheys Park in February. On a windy and blustery winters day he took this photograph which is showing on his website, http://www.eddie-middleton.com.
In Sale visiting family Eddie and his wife visited "Pinky Park", a favourite haunt of his wife whilst growing up in the area. I am sure you will agree the photograph of the childrens play area is dramatic in black and white and perfectly highlights the park on a cold, winters day.
The friends of Woodheys park are always looking for pictures or articles which relate to Woodheys park and these can be sent to us through the contacts page on the website.

Woodheys park's latest venture is a butterfly garden. The Friend's of Woodheys park's plan at the beginning of 2008 was to develop a Butterfly garden to compliment the existing nature corridor running from the car park down to the Pinkey park children's play area. The first stage was to obtain funding and with a very generous donation of £200.00 from B & Q we were well on our way to creating our very own butterfly garden right here in Sale, Cheshire.
Butterfly numbers in the UK have been in decline throughout the last decade and the Friend's group recognise that with the diversity of wildlife within our park in Sale it would be good to promote a section of wildlife which has begun to suffer in the UK. On a cold November morning pupils from Woodheys Primiary School, the friend's group, the Head-Gardener(Joe) and our Park development officer(David Sykes) all got their hands dirty planting a specially selected area of the park. The plants chosen were specifically selected based on their attractiveness to Butterflies and small insects.
We believe this to be the first Butterfly garden in a public park in Trafford and our butterfly garden is designed for the future. It will be interesting to watch and see how these plants grow and develop and what butterfly species they attract. Our hope is that by continuing to attract different wildlife into public parks in Trafford that families will continue to enjoy all the amenities within our local parks and Woodheys in particular for many years to come.

The friends of Woodheys Park based in Sale are please to announce that funding for their popular football skills courses has been agreed for the winter period. As the park is not floodlit we have been forced to amend the times to suit and so the courses will now be held every Tuesday between 4 - 5pm.
Our football skills courses have become hugely popular with the children based around the park, the weekly trophy scheme and quality of the F.A approved coaches running the course has kept children coming back week after week. At no cost to the children these football skills courses are a good way to get your children involved in a group activity where motivation and teamwork are paramount to their enjoyment.
We are still looking to improve the facilities within the park and next spring we would hope to be able to replace the goalposts and continue running these football coaching and skills courses throughout 2009. |

The Friends of Woodheys Park are working hard to make this a park to be proud of.
Woodheys Park has undergone a remarkable transformation since 2000 when the friends group was formed to rescue the park from ruin after years of under investment. Based on Kenmore Road in the popular catchment area of Sale West, Broadheath and Timperley the park is ideally situated for days out. With it's pitch and putt, family five-a-side and children's area, woodheys woods and gardens there is plenty to do within the park for the whole family. This is what makes Woodheys park in Sale special, the family atmosphere which has been created and nurtured making a pleasant green space for all to enjoy. |

The Friends of Woodheys park is staffed by volunteers who freely give up their time for the benefit of all who use the park. Their is no firm commitment to the amount of time each member provides but all committee group members meet at least monthly with public meetings open to friends group members bi-monthly. |
